For some reason, the subject of cosmetic surgery just seems to immediately grab a hold of everyone’s attention because of the amazing results it produces.  This may be because of all of the celebrities who have had liposuction lately.  Of course, it may also be that out of all of the cosmetic surgery procedures available, we believe that liposuction, or as it is often called, lipoplasty or liposculpture, by far, produces the most drastic and immediate results.  Therefore, we are going to discuss what it costs as well as what contributes to that cost.

As most people figure out, the single largest factor in determining how much liposuction will cost is the cosmetic surgeon’s fee.  At this point a word of caution is necessary: please do not try to find the cheapest plastic surgeon; you will end up paying for this decision in the long run.  When it comes to the world of plastic surgery, you really do get what you pay for.  Hence, if you seek a low cost cosmetic surgeon, you will get a low cost cosmetic surgeon job (which you really don’t want).

Liposuction Prices

Now, let’s answer you main question. Liposuction generally will cost you in the neighborhood of $1500 to $7500. Unfortunately, this just includes the surgeon’s fee (which you don’t want to skimp on). In addition to the surgeon’s fees, you will also be responsible for operating room fees, anesthesia fees, and of course, pain medication.

To add insult to injury, since liposuction is usually considered an elective surgery procedure, you will be responsible for paying for it. Since it isn’t considered medically necessary, the insurance companies will refuse to pay for it.

As a side note, if you don't have the money readily available for this surgery, you may want to look at my other hub for more information.

So, what exactly are you paying $1500 to $7500 for?  Well, there are three main aspects that will form the cosmetic surgeon’s fee structure.  While you have some control over some of these aspects, others you have absolutely not control.

Liposuction Cost Factors

A huge factor in the price of liposuction is how much fat do you need to have removed.  Since the surgeon’s time is extremely expensive, and he charges on an hourly basis, the longer you need to be operated on (i.e. the more fat you need to have removed), the more expensive the surgery is going to cost.  Therefore, if you would like to reduce the cost of this surgery, you could decide to have less fatty deposits removed during the surgery.

Also, the skill level and experience of the plastic surgeon is going to determine his fee structure.  As you would suspect, it is going to cost much more for a surgeon with fifteen years of experience than it will for a surgeon with only two years of experience.  Of course, you really do get what you pay for.  Therefore, if you can afford the surgeon with fifteen years of experience, you should go with him or her.

Furthermore, your gender will play a role in determining the final cost.  If you are a man and are undergoing this procedure, you can expect to pay more than a woman undergoing this procedure.  Don’t worry; cosmetic surgeons are not sexist.  It simply takes longer to remove a man’s fatty deposits because they are more fibrous than women’s fatty deposits.

As you have seen, getting a liposuction is not a cheap matter.  Of course, when it comes to your health, we are fairly confident that you will want to spend a little more to ensure you get a higher quality cosmetic surgeon.  As a last note of caution, please do not base your decision on which surgeon to use based on the liposuction price he quotes you.  If you do pay less for a cosmetic surgeon’s services, there really is a reason why.
