Things to Know About Rhinoplasty Surgery and Post Surgery

By

Many people wish that they could change at least one part of their appearance. Rhinoplasty surgery or better known as a “nose job” is usually at the top of everyone’s list of things to get fixed. This is the most popular type of surgery, but it is just like any other surgery that you may be familiar with. There are things that you will need to do to plan for it. There are also some things that you will want to be aware of once you have gotten your rhinoplasty procedure done.

It is important to know what takes place during the surgery so that you will be able to better care for your nose after rhinoplasty has been performed. You can expect the entire procedure to take a couple of hours. During the surgery, the surgeon will be removing a small amount of skin from the bones and cartilage in your nose so that it can be reshaped. The way that the cartilage in your nose is reshaped will depend on the way that you want for your nose to look. When the cartilage has been remolded, your skin will be put back over your new nose, and the places where incisions were made will be stitched up.

When you are getting rhinoplasty surgery done, the surgeon doing the procedure may either cut inside of your nostril if they can or they may have to do what is called an “open” procedure which means that they have to make an incision to the outside of your nose. If the inside of your nose is the incision point, then you will not have to worry about any visual scars, but you may notice a little scarring if the incisions are made on the outside.

As with any type of surgery, there are things that you will want to be sure to do after the surgery is complete. You will want to also know what a few things to expect are. When the procedure is complete, you will probably experience some swelling in your face, you may have slight pain in your nose, and you may get headaches. Your doctor will give you pain medicine to help get rid of the pain that you will have to endure for the few days after the surgery. Rhinoplasty will leave some swelling under your eyes that may bring you some uncomfortable feelings, but you can reduce the swelling and get rid of some of the pain by putting ice packs on those areas for a few minutes at a time. Rhinoplasty procedures will usually leave some bruising that will stay around for a week or two as well.

Conclusion

There are a lot of things that you may want to learn about the procedure itself and what you need to do when the surgery is done. You will leave the operating room with some very specific instructions on how you should care for yourself after you have gotten rhinoplasty. If you need any additional information, make sure to ask your surgeon and they will be happy to help you.
