Rhinoplasty Risks

Have you ever had to go to the hospital to have an operation done? Your surgeon probably told you about some of the risks that you were facing by having the surgery done, and probably even made you sign a little form that stated you understood the risks involved. Rhinoplasty (or a nose job) is no different. There will be a lot of potential risks that your surgeon will want to discuss with you before you have this operation done.

The more experience a plastic surgeon has, the less of a chance you have of them making a mistake and something bad happening to you. However, even the most experienced surgeon could make an error, so they will discuss with you some of the things that could potentially happen to you if they do.

One of the things that could happen is your nose may become infected. This usually happens around the areas that the incisions were made. Your doctor will give you some instructions on how you should care for your nose after the surgery has been done, so that it will not become infected. Another risk you will be taking is the risk of nose bleeds. Again, your surgeon will give you instructions to follow both before and after the operation is complete and you will be able to lessen your chances of suffering from any of these side effects by following the instructions that he/she gives you.

Another thing that you may be putting yourself at risk for is scarring. Most rhinoplasty procedures are done from the inside of the nose so that you will not see any scars. However, if you are getting some work done to the base of your nose or to your nostrils, you may notice that there are a few visible scars. You should ask your surgeon if you can expect to see any scars.

You may also be taking the risk of having to have a repeat surgery performed. Plastic surgery is not a perfected art, so there are a few cases when a surgeon will have to perform a corrective surgery in order to fix minor problems that may arise.

You will want to be sure that the rhinoplasty surgeon you choose is one that you can communicate well with. They will be giving you a lot of instructions to follow, and some of them are things that may need to be done a little while before your surgery is to be performed. If you follow all of the instructions that you are given, then you will not have to worry about getting results like some of the horror stories that you have heard.
